Geek, La Chic!

We love a bit of geekery over here, with our penchant for Star Wars, marathon viewings of Adventure Time, and bursts of Disney's Frozen songs, we are big kids and not afraid to show it.
Plenty of our friends also have geeky leanings, sending me countless links and news from anything that makes us jump up and down on the spot grinning inanely.
One such friend, Amy, branched out and launched GeekLaChic.co.uk, a shop full of quirky and completely affordable bits and pieces from all your favourite Sci-Fi, Comedy, Cartoons New and Retro, Games and Comic Books.

Opening as an online store just a year or so ago, it has picked up with full steam ahead becoming hugely popular online growing consistently, and has now branched into it’s first store, albeit a pop up store but hopefully it’ll become a more permanent feature in the Lanes of Brighton.

It’s currently a pop up store in Ship Street Gardens (for those who love lingerie and have ever visited She Said, it’s right next door, if you haven’t been make that your pit stop after Geek La Chic!) which is a little alley off Ship Street, and was planning to stay there for the whole of May.

As it has been so popular, and full of some amazing stock, it looks like it’ll be sticking around for June too, and maybe if you’re lucky it’ll stay around for a lot longer after!
It boasts plenty of unique stock that will make you stand out from the crowds, and help you to attract fellow Whovians, Star Warsians, Sherlockians, or whatever nerdy subculture takes your fancy.
For the non geeks (is there really such a thing?!) there is plenty of amazing shoes from Iron Fist,  being the only Brighton stockist, and one of only a handful of UK stockists, and with Iron Fist clothing on the way too, amazing dresses that I fell in love with from Dead Lovers, an up and coming Manchester brand that will go far from the designs and quality of the products I saw that you simply must check out now, and much much more it is worth a visit before you hit the pebbly beach!

If you aren't able to make it to the store there is always the online route, with plenty of products available, sale bargains, gifts and much more, with new items added every day it's worth bookmarking and checking on the regular!
The store is so full and jam packed, you are guaranteed to find something for you, your friend, your little sister, and your quirky cousin under one roof, and it's pretty hard to leave empty handed.
I even had trouble leaving without buying countless items, but my bank balance wouldn't allow for such a splurge, so I left with only a Boba Fett Dressing Gown, a bargain at only £20, and had to buy as Edd has one too so we now are that cliche matching dressing gowns couple, but in a Star Wars kind of a way.

With items ranging from Swimwear (so handy as it's so close to the beach!), shoes, clothes of all kinds and for all occasions (My Little Pony Prom Dress? Yes, they have you covered), bags, and plenty of accessories I'm surprised how jam packed this little shop is, and just how busy it got with people constantly popping in and talking to the owner, Amy, about buying from them online too.
I wouldn't be surprised if this shop stayed for a while yet to come, and as it was only meant to be a pop up store, it proves just how popular these items, and this store actually is.

Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium in Video!

This is our 50th post!!
How? I don't know, we really have been busy!
To catch up with the rest of the internet, and for something a bit different today, we bring you CATS!

There are Four Rules of Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium, luckily one of those rules isn't that you can't talk about Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium, because you will tell EVERYONE!
It's become the latest hot spot in London's Hipster Village of Shoreditch, located just next to Brick Lane, and it's been constantly booked up since it opened.
It is a publicly funded venture, with the cafe being opened thanks to generous donations made by the cat loving public, and has generated much excitement since the rumours of it actually opening came to light.
I was lucky enough to get a rare booking, but it was three weeks away.
Finally that day has come!
As we waited to enter we overheard them telling someone who walked in that it is currently booked up until August, but follow them via twitter where some cancellations are advertised but work on a first come first serve basis.

So onto the cafe!

The rules of the cafe state that you mustn't pick up the cats, pet or try to play with them while they are sleeping or eating, and not feed them people food.
The problem however with cats is that they can tend to be standoffish, so will only sit on your lap if you're allergic to them.
If you are, I wouldn't recommend visiting this cafe.
The other problem with cats is that they sleep, a lot.
Like, all the time, and when they weren't sleeping they were either trying to, or pretending to.

We were quite peckish as our appointment was at lunch, so I was happy to see they serve vegan options too, and opted to get a vegan tart.
This is where it got interesting.
Our waiter was the Hipster equivalent of Manwell, and turned the food ordering and receiving portion of our visit into Fawlty Towers, with cats.
We placed our order with some confusion that seemed to be rectified.
He gave me a pot of tea which I realised wasn't the Rooibos I ordered, and when I asked he gave us the line of the day, we have repeated this often since.
"I don't know, I'm literally just Waitering here."
Best. Excuse. For. Anything. Ever.

The food arrived, and the savoury tart was surprisingly good, a little too good....!
It tasted like egg, cheese, and all of those forbidden things but three people all confirmed it was indeed vegan.
It was delicious but I think it's impression was so good, it convinced my stomach and made me a little poorly later on that day.
I shall spare you the details.

Edd's Ploughmans was a cake stand full of cheeses, salad, fruit, and one single bun.
He decided against the Scooby Doo route and did his best to make the one bun last rather than pile it all sky high.
The cakes however were delicious, and there was more than one vegan option, tho the one I ordered was sold out.

Some of the cats did liven up during our visit, coming out of their various hiding places, and I petted every one I could get my hands onto.
Some of the cats are pretty shy, but as they are generally rescue cats they have all been bought up in very different environments.
Sadly I got no cat cuddles, and none came to sit with us, or anywhere near us, but I have never known a cat to be extroverted, and with 11 cats being hounded by 30 people or so for two hours at a time I could understand why those hiding spots seemed so tempting.
If I was them, I would be hiding too.
You people...with your camera phones.

Through Thin to Thick?

My hair is useless.
It sits there wisp of brown steam around my head, looking flat, mousey, and boring.
It's naturally poker straight, with no bounce or thickness and has lead me to survive on constantly pinning it up and ignoring it completely.
I'm so jealous of girls with natural beachy waves, thick long locks, and bouncy curls.
We should be able to work with what we are given and so with this in mind, I stocked up on various sprays that all promise or promote one thing, bigger hair.
Because the Bigger the Hair, the Closer we are to Heaven.

Anything that I read would add plump, textured waves, or volume was going into my Boots Basket, thank god for those advantage points!
So lets start it off with the double lifesaver, Dry Shampoo's!
Well, we've all been there, haven't we girls?!?

Batise is probably the most well known brand when it comes to dry shampoos, coming in many many different types, and sizes including a handy travel size for freshening up on the go.
I went for the volumizing formula and sprayed liberally in my roots.
These types rely on white talc like powder to freshen your hair, but does give you rather a 'Silver Fox' effect, even after massaging it in.
This particular one did make my hair seem a slightly bit more plumped up, but I actually found it best for up do's, giving me braids that looked thick and like normal hair!

This Tresemme isn't advertised as a thickening spray, but did make my hair seem a great deal bouncier, and without the use of white powder meaning I could spray in as much as I liked without worry, it also lasted all day which is something the Batise wasn't quite up to.
I will definitely be buying this one again, it did everything I want without any of the empty promises.

Backcombing sprays promise you will never have to tease and split your hair again to obtain a bee-hive, problem is tho is that you will.
This seems to have the same consistency as the dry shampoo's, leaving me once again with white talcum roots and needing to be massaged in.
It was good for braids, and gave slight volume but didn't last all day.
I think this and Batise are just the same things in different cans.

Salt sprays were a completely new thing for me, having such straight hair I wasn't convinced I could even have tousled waves.
I can't.
It left my hair a combination of sticky, wet, and limp which isn't what I was hoping for!
I'd heard good things, particularly about the Toni and Guy so I'll keep trying, but I'm so glad I bought the cheap travel version, rather than the £7.99 full sized bottle!
I'm hoping my hair will click with it one day, but I'm too in love with the affects of the dry shampoo's, which don't break the bank so they may be a regular purchase.

Have you found your volumizing dream formula yet?
