June Birchbox Review

After many failed attempts with Glossybox, I had a few people mention to me how much they are loving their Birchbox subscriptions for a better quality of product.
I admit I wasn't impressed with the first Birchbox I ever received, and promptly cancelled my subscription but I decided to give them another chance, as after all, my first Glossybox was great, just none of the five others that came after it.
I signed up in time to receive their Brazil inspired box, it still being the world cup and all...is that still going? Did someone do a won yet?!

The outer packaging and inner drawstring bag have been designed with the Brazilian flag as inspiration, and leaflets saying things about sport.
I didn't read them.
I do wonder why the outer box is so big compared to the actual Birchbox itself tho, and I remember wondering this when I received my first package. It does seem a tad wasteful and makes more for my postman to carry....sorry mr. postman!

All of the products looked to be a good a varied selection, including brands I already know and love, so was happy to get bits of theirs, but also new brands that I was yet to try. It's quite a good mix, and maybe one all beauty boxes should aspire to to keep customers happy.
I don't think I will use the flipflop keyring however, I've been saving a LadureƩ keyring for when we have our own place, and I'm not sure the flipflop would really go with macarons and Eiffel Towers!

I hadn't heard of Naobay before, but anything that's natural ingredients is instantly a winner in my book.
They are anti animal testing, use recycled and bio degradable packaging, and family run company based in Spain. All their ingredients come from organic farming and ingredients are very clearly labelled, even on their website. This sank into the skin very easily, leaving no slimy residue, and it has a lovely smell and texture to it. I would like to try more of their face products, but they do run quite pricey so I would prefer to try those more than a body lotion.
Caudalie is a luxury french pharmacy brand, that similar to No 7 in the UK, is very well loved and used throughout France. As the products are so nice and work so well, they are of course quite expensive. The full sized version of this perfecting day cream would set you back a whopping £38!
It's amazing however, and my skin has never looked lovelier.
I'd love to have a range of Caudalie products on my dressing table, but I would have to opt for the cheaper products in their range if so....sob sob!
Please take pity on me, a french benefactor!

I was so very excited to find a Beauty Blender in my box, these are the new must have item and have already started being copied by various other companies due to the popularity.
This "egg" with cleaning soap would cost you a pretty £26, so double the £12.95 I spent obtaining the box in the first place.
It does make make up application seem a lot easier, and look more natural while airbrushed in one go.
The soap is great to use too, and will help decrease constant contamination.
I fell out of the habit of using it, but simply because I can't leave my make up in the bathroom in my shared house and taking it into the bathroom every morning just seems a task.
I will be waiting till we get our own place to make a morning make up shelf!

This teeny tiny The Balm book gloss is super cute. I love the pin up on the front, tho I'm not too sure about the half naked cowboy types on the inside...!? Lipgloss porn?!
The only worry I had was that due to it's teeny tiny size, I would lose it easily.
I took these photo's, and this swatch.....and then lost it instantly.
It is a lip and cheek tint, and from the swatch it gave a great flush of colour too, I would maybe say some manner of ball chain so you can attach it to a make up bag, or purse etc to stop from losing so easily?
I do hope it turns up!

I wasn't sure what was inside the strange birch box envelope, but out fell this miniature O.P.I nail polish, again made to match the colours of Brazil.
They really went all out on that one, didn't they?!
I've tried it out on my nail wheel and it is quite a nice yellow, with glistening glittery bits that looks very summery, I'm not too sure however that I would wear a bright hello polish.
I can imagine it would lovely on tanned hands for those who tan, I however do not tan well and stay very pale year round, so would look more like I had a terrible smoking habit.
I quit earlier this year, thank you..!

The only problem with this box, is that it made me regret cancelling in the first place, the following box after my cancellation was a Lulu Guinness collaboration...!!
Why, when I wasted so much on Glossybox instead!
Lesson learned kids.

Girly daywear in Bristol

We were in Bristol a few weeks ago, actually there to house hunt and I was hoping when I posted this we would have good news and a new place to live, but sadly it's jut suddenly fell through and we are back to square one!
Bristol is a beautiful city, and I imagine it would be a lovely place to live, it's the perfect backdrop for outfit posts...!

As we were walking around and viewing a lot of places, I opted for a fairly sensible running around outfit, which of course means no heels!
These Zara pumps match well with the navy skirt, and they are so comfy too.
The Navy have sold out now sadly, but the red pair are available at only £10 in their amazing sale, I want everything.
It was also quite a warm day too so light and airy was the perfect combination for the day.

My laser cut clutch is from Boohoo, it's so cute but also big enough to fit everything I need into it, including my iPad mini that we were using to look up more places.
Sadly it has now sold out in stores, but it may be released in other colours, as it had also been available in pink before this white version.

The necklace* is from Chimeric Garnish, who I have featured before on this blog, and I absolutely love it. I loved the stark contrast between what is quite a girly outfit, and classic looking due to the wood cut but also a fun touch of T-Rex's poking out of my shirt collar.
They are so well made, and the detailing is amazing too.
Be sure to check out their wide range over at Etsy!

I had my eye on this ASOS skirt for ages, and luckily for me they had a discount code offer so I treated myself!
It's really quite versatile, and goes well with everything I've tried it with so far. It also comes in an oyster with black polka dots which I may have to get simply due to the easy wearability and classic vintage style look it gives.

The shirt is one of those Primark blouses I keep wearing, I have them in four different colours now but it comes in so many more.
They are very easy to throw on and with all the colour options they can change a whole look very easily. As they are so lightweight they are easy to pack too so they are the perfect item to throw into your luggage for a trip away.

I've stuck to my failsafe Quay sunnies, also from ASOS and pinned my hair back with this Primark hair bow, I know, I've double primarked...!
I loved spending some time out of London, seeing plenty of greenery and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle.
It's a shame our prospective flat fell through (which is why I've had a not so great week mentioned in my previous post) but I enjoyed the time we did get to spend there.
Now to wait and see what the future holds for us!
